Robert Iger was born in New York City to a Jewish family. He is the oldest child born to Arthur L. Iger and Mimi (née Tunick) (1927–2013). (1926–2010). His father, a World War II Navy veteran, was a professor of advertising and public relations, as well as the executive vice president and general manager of the Greenvale Marketing Corporation. He also played the trumpet and struggled with bipolar disorder. His mother was a teacher at Oceanside, New York’s Boardman Junior High School.
