Band Kenickie

Her career began when she and her college friends founded the band Kenickie.

Laverne, Nixon and Jackson founded Kenickie with Laverne’s brother Peter while in college, using the stage names Lauren Laverne. The band was formerly associated with the Slampt label and the local punk scene before signing with EMI. Kenickie had four top-40 singles and a top-10 album in her career.

Laverne, Du Santiago, and Montrose became as well-known for their onstage banter and interview manner as they were for their song, making them frequent candidates on comic panel shows like Never Mind the Buzzcocks. Have I Got News for You would later feature Laverne.
