The wake for Cuomo took place on January 5, 2015, and his funeral was held at Manhattan’s Saint Ignatius Loyola Church on January 6. He is buried at Middle Village, Queens’ St. John Cemetery.

Later, he advocated for the Kew Gardens-Forest Hills Committee on Urban Scale, a group of Queens citizens who opposed Samuel J. LeFrak’s plan to build homes close to Willow Lake. When Mayor John Lindsay asked him to look into and arbitrate a disagreement over low-income public housing planned for the upper-middle class community of Forest Hills in 1972, Cuomo gained notoriety outside of New York City.
