Chris started working as a sports reporter for WMUR-TV in Manchester, New Hampshire. In 1991, he made his first television appearance as a reporter as part of a 48 Hours investigation into NBA Spring Break. Chris later became the nightly sports anchor for WVIT-TV, an NBC affiliate in Hartford, Connecticut.

He also worked as a reporter for NBC Sports, covering events such as the NBA, WNBA, Notre Dame football, the Gator Bowl, the Sun America Sportsdesk, and the Olympics. From 1996 to 1997, he worked as a correspondent for the nationally syndicated entertainment news show Entertainment Tonight.
