Gilbert Shawn and Rae were wed from September 2, 1955, till Rae’s passing on September 2, 2005. Rae was a longtime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Rae was an actress in the early days of daytime television. From the show’s premiere in 1951 until her tragic passing from a brain hemorrhage at New York Hospital, she appeared on Search for Tomorrow for 20 years as the wife of the couple that lived next door. Her character, Marge Bergman, was best friends with the main character of the series, Joanne (played by Mary Stuart).
