Veron explained to Ivan how the Australian government has invested nearly $400 million in reef protection but maintains that money alone will not solve the problem.

When asked what people should learn from the current state of the reef, he told Ivan, “Coral bleaching is driven by carbon dioxide, and it will continue unless you stop pumping carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.” That’s all there is to it.
