While in college, Harlow worked as a CBS intern. She kept working for CBS MarketWatch after earning her degree. After graduating, she went on to work for CBS Newspath as an assistant producer. She obtained a position as an anchor and reporter for NY1 News Local Edition as she continued to establish a solid reputation for herself. She covered Staten Island and New Jersey while she was employed there, concentrating on writing about local political, economic, and cultural issues.
Forbes.com Video Network hired Harlow in September 2007 to provide additional fashion, entertainment, and business coverage. Harlow joined CNN the following year, in 2008, and was CNNMoney.com’s anchor.
Harlow briefly blacked out while anchoring a live broadcast in December of 2015. At the time, she was expecting. She later appeared on air again and claimed that she had only become hot and was otherwise fine. She was checked out in a hospital and said that she and her unborn daughter were both healthy.
As Carol Costello moved to HLN in February 2017, Harlow and Jim Sciutto took over as the new co-anchors of “CNN Newsroom” every morning from 9 to 11 A.M.
