Zarinah was born in Uganda to Nasur Hassan and Halima Hassan. Unfortunately, her mother died in July 2017 from heart failure while seeking treatment at Uganda’s Nakasero Hospital. Zari claims that Ivan, her husband of ten years and the father of her three sons, was fascinated with her, a propensity that eventually developed to violent extremes. Zari moved on after her relationship with Ivan ended, and she eventually fell in love with basketball player Farouk Sempala. Their romance was short-lived, as Farouk eventually accused the boss woman of aborting his children. This, according to the basketball player, was the primary cause of their breakup. Later that month, after Diamond Platnumz had recently split up with Tanzanian actress Wema Sepetu, a photo of Zari and Diamond kissing began making the rounds on social media.

Diamond and Zarinah both denied that they were dating, with Zari claiming that they were only pals collaborating on a music project. Their ‘project’ has never materialized to this day. Their romance was revealed a few weeks later when The Boss Lady and Diamond attended the South Africa Channel O Video Music Awards while holding hands on the red carpet.
