Rick Wakeman rose to prominence in 1969 as a member of the folk-rock band “The Strawbs,” with whom he remained until 1971. On the band’s second album, “Dragonfly,” he performed piano. One of his most famous accomplishments with the band occurred on July 11, 1970, in Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, where the band received a standing ovation for their performance.

In 1971, he joined the iconic rock band “Yes,” and the following year, they published the album “Fragile,” which charted in the Top 10 in the UK and the US. They published “Close to the Edge” in 1972, and it was a major commercial and critical success.

Rick’s debut album, “The Six Wives of Henry VIII,” was published in 1973 and reached number seven in the UK and number thirty in the US.
