Amado Carrillo Feuntes Death
Amado Carrillo Fuentes eventually grew to be so influential and well-connected that he posed a serious threat to the integrity of Mexico’s government. People in Mexico noticed that Fuentes had a home in the state of Morelos three blocks from Jorge Carrillo Olea’s residence. The locals made the assumption that Jorge Olea was collaborating with Fuentes by adding two and two. Jorge Carrillo Olea had already faced criticism for his inaction as drug-related violence erupted all around him.
Jorge Carrillo Olea was detained as soon as he announced his resignation in response to mounting public pressure. This alarmed Amado Carrillo Fuentes, who was already being sought after by DEA agents and Mexican anti-drug teams at the time. He ran away from country to country in search of safety in places like Cuba and Russia.
He finally consented to a major plastic surgery procedure that would completely restructure his face as a last resort. He had hoped that this procedure would allow him to adopt a new identity and start a new life, but it went horribly wrong. Despite the best efforts of the surgeons, something went wrong during the procedure, and Fuentes died. Later, those same surgeons were put to death, tortured, and placed inside steel drums filled with concrete.
