He earned a bachelor’s degree in physics and a minor in mathematics from Berea College in Kentucky. Eastern Michigan University in Michigan awarded Jack a master’s degree in scientific mathematics. He joined Ford in 1966 and left in 1970 to start his own company. While growing his own firm, he also worked at Chrysler, one of the three major vehicle manufacturers in the United States.

Roush had a fascinating career path. He worked for a short time at Chrysler after leaving Ford, intending to start his own business. He eventually opened his own engineering firm, and that’s where it all began. He raced in NHRA, IHRA, and AHRA drag racing races with Wayne Gapp (a racing car driver who was one-half of the Gapp & Roush drag racing team).

His company also teamed with a German manufacturer to produce racing vehicles for Ford, resulting in the IMSA Camel GT and Trans-Am series of cars. His teams have won seven championships in total. In addition to racing, Roush Enterprise operates Roush Performance, a company that produces and sells vehicle parts (this also leads to another famous Ford series, the Mustangs). ROUSH CleanTech and Roush Industries are also owned by the company.

The businessman has been in multiple plane crashes that have put his life in jeopardy. When Roush’s private plane, Aircam, landed in Troy, Alabama on his 60th birthday in 2002, he had a near-death experience. He had another plane crash in Livonia eight years later, nearly losing one of his eyes.
