While serving in the Clinton administration, he was regarded as Secretary Madeleine Albright’s right hand man.
Rubin left the government and moved to London with his family. He began his tenure as a visiting professor of international relations at the London School of Economics.
Additionally, he made his debut as a host for the weekly international affairs program Wide Angle on PBS.

He served as the chief foreign policy spokesman for General Wesley Clark’s presidential campaign after returning to the country, but Clark later withdrew from the 2004 Presidential Primaries.
Following that, he worked as a senior advisor in national security affairs, where he quickly gained wide recognition.
