Wolf Isaac Blitzer is an American journalist who has been a  CNN reporter since 1990 and one of the network’s primary anchors at the moment and author. He co-hosts The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer and was the network’s top political anchor from 2011 to 2021.

He is the child of David and Cesia Blitzer. His grandparents, two uncles, and two aunts on his father’s side were all killed in Auschwitz; his parents were Polish Jews who fled German-occupied Poland and survived the concentration camp.

Under the terms of the 1948 Displaced Persons Act, Blitzer and his family immigrated to the United States.He attended Kenmore West Senior High School after growing up in Buffalo, New York. At the State University of New York at Buffalo, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in history in 1970. He was a part of Alpha Epsilon Pi there. He graduated with a Master of Arts in International Relations from the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University in 1972. He learned Hebrew at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem while a student at Johns Hopkins.

Since 2004, CNN has chosen Blitzer to serve as the anchor for all of their presidential election coverage. Blitzer has been the host of CNN’s two-hour afternoon/early evening program The Situation Room since August 8, 2005.
He started hosting CNN Newsroom’s 1pm ET hour in 2013, and the show was renamed Wolf in 2014. When Wolf ended in 2018, Brianna Keilar’s CNN Right Now took its place.
CNN announced programming changes in January 2021, reducing The Situation Room’s runtime to one hour. Starting on April 26, Jake Tapper will take on a larger role at the network as Lead Washington anchor, and his program The Lead with Jake Tapper will also grow.
He co-hosted The Newscast with Wolf Blitzer in 2022 on CNN’s ill-fated streaming platform.
