Cause of his Death

Alagiah was revealed to be receiving treatment for colorectal cancer in April 2014. Late in October 2015, he tweeted that the treatment was finished and that he would be coming back to the BBC on November 10. It was discovered in January 2018 that the cancer had returned, necessitating additional treatment.
Alagiah stated in a March 2018 interview with The Sunday Times that his cancer was terminal and might have been discovered sooner if England had a screening program.
Alagiah stated that his cancer had spread to his lungs, liver, and lymph nodes in June 2020, but that it was not in a “chronic” or “terminal” stage at that time.

Alagiah revealed in October 2022 that his cancer had spread further and  he subsequently took a break from television to undergo a new course of treatment.
Alagiah died on 24 July 2023, at the age of 67. His agent stated that he died peacefully, surrounded by his family and loved ones
