Gustav Schwarzenegger was an Austrian police chief , postal inspector, member of the Sturmabteilung (SA), and military police officer. He was the father of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Gustav Schwarzenegger Death
At the age of 65, Schwarzenegger passed away from a stroke on December 13, 1972, in Weiz, Steiermark, Austria, where he had been transferred as a police officer. Aurelia Jadrny Schwarzenegger, 76, passed away from a heart attack while visiting her husband’s grave in Weiz Cemetery in August 1998. She is interred next to him. In the movie Pumping Iron, their son Arnold claimed that he skipped his father’s funeral.
His son Arnold publicly recalled, for the first time, how Gustav was frequently intoxicated and abusive to his family when Arnold was young in a 2021 video created in response to the attack on the US Capitol. He explained his actions as a result of Gustav and other Nazis’ and collaborators had perpetrated or enabled during the war.

Gustav Schwarzenegger the son of Cecelia and Karl Schwarzenegger he was born in Austria-Hungary. His patrilineal grandfather, Wenzel Mach, was Czech and came from the village of Chocov near Mladá Vožice. Wenzel had a child out of wedlock with Kunigunde Schwarzenegger, and the child was originally named Carl Mach but later adopted his mother’s surname, Schwarzenegger.

Gustav Schwarzenegger Career
From 1930 to 1937, Schwarzenegger served in the Austrian Army, rising to the rank of section commander. In 1937, he joined the police force. Schwarzenegger was appointed Hauptfeldwebel (Company 1st Sergeant) of the Feldgendarmerie, which served as military police units, after enlisting in the Wehrmacht in November 1939. He served in Russia, Lithuania, Ukraine, France, and Belgium in addition to Poland.
Accused of his links with Nazi
Gustav Schwarzenegger served for seven years in the military from 1930 to 1937. In 1990, the news of his links with Nazi circulated, which made Arnold dig into his past to know the depth of truth.
He employed his friends at the Simon Wiesenthal Center for the investigation.
After a two-month investigation, they realized that he had applied for the membership in 1938, but there was no such evidence of his war crime.
Later, it was discovered that he was a member of the Sturmabteilung, also known as Brown Shirts, but his activities were not known, due to which conclusion could not be drawn.
